Before you get started on answering questions, ensure you're in the clearest of your mind about what the question is. There's no harm in finding out the reason for the question being asked. Try asking politely "I am sorry, I'm unable to grasp what you're asking I would appreciate if you could clarify?" You'll communicate more effectively by doing this rather than shouting at the top of your lungs with no sense of clarity and understanding. Keep in mind that the goal of answering questions is to make a contribution to the one who is in search of an answer. Be quick to respond. Seek understanding first.

A way to increase your efficiency in responding to your question in an accurate and objective way is to ensure that you give the person who is asking your question time to complete asking. It is up to you to determine if you are competent to answer the questions or someone else does. Are you authorized to talk about this topic (journalists are able to haunt you even if you are not suppose to be the company spokesperson)? What is the depth of your answer be? Silence and breaks in the conversation will show that you're just churning out any raw material is in your mind but a clearly thought-out answer is on the way. It is possible to prepare your audience member for to answer you by asking "Let me think ..., Let me see ..". This way, the person will stop waiting around, thinking the person hasn't heard anything that you're ignoring, etc. Think through your thoughts and you'll be able in coming up with suggestions that you won't regret for later. You can determine the best way to answer with wisdom without leaving the person with cuts or wounds.
