A question can be described as a sentence that demands a response or an answer. On a daily basis, you get to ask to be asked questions. Some questions are open-ended requiring explanation, elaboration and more, while some questions have a closed-ended format that requires only either a Yes or No. In some instances others ask questions that do not need a response, but are simply to be heard (rhetoric or rhetorical questions). Depending on the format of the issue, your response that follows should address what questions are asked. Many students fail tests and not due to being dull or uninterested, but because they don't understand what is being asked to them. The failure to convey the issue correctly can lead to a wrong action or response. After a presentation, you must feel satisfied when people have questions. It could be a sign you were able to keep people engaged during your presentation and that the presentation generated interest in others. How you respond to questions will increase the view of your audience of your company or boost their trust in your product or services. As a professional you will be required to master your art of asking pertinent questions and, most importantly, be able to answer them effectively.

Before you dive into answering any question, make sure you have a clear mind what the question is. There is no harm in seeking clarity over what is being asked. If you are asked politely "I apologize, I'm not sure if I be able to comprehend what you're asking What would you like to change?" It's better to be more concise when you do this instead of speaking in the same voice with no clarification or understanding. Keep in mind that the purpose of answering questions is to make a positive contribution to the person trying to find an answer. Don't take time. Seek understanding first.

One strategy to increase the quality of your answers to questions in a meaningful and objective way is to ensure that you give the person who is asking the question to finish asking. Some people are slow to elaborate on what they want to know. When you respond to a question without knowing what is asked in full may appear to be disrespectful. Don't think you know the direction the question is headed, and you will need to assist to get to the point. If you're time-bound give the person time to "ramble" while you take note of the most important details. This also allows you time to think through and formulate the best answer to the question. Being able to listen can give the highest success rate with regards to your answers to questions.

You should determine if you're qualified to answer the query or if somebody else is. Have you been authorized by the company to speak on this topic (journalists can make you vulnerable even when you're not legally required to be the spokesperson of the company)? How deep should the answer be? Interrupts and moments of silence show that you are not just churning out any raw substance you've got in your mind, but a reasoned out answer is on its way. It is possible to help the person waiting for to answer you by asking "Let me think ..., Let me consider it." ..". This way, the person will not sit around thinking the person hasn't heard anything it, or that you're not paying attention, or ignoring. Think through your thoughts and you'll be able to make statements that you'll not be regretting about later. You can identify the most effective solution to make your point without leaving cuts or wounds.
