It's better to be more concise with this approach than simply blabbing away with no any clarity, or even understanding. Remember that the essence of answering questions is for you to contribute positively to the person trying to find an answer. Avoid wasting time. Seek understanding first.

One technique that will increase your effectiveness in answering an inquiry in a pertinent and objective way is if you allow the person who asked the question time to finish asking. Certain people prefer to elaborate on what they want to know. Responding to a question after it is answered fully could appear insensitive. It is not a good idea to assume you know the direction that the inquiry is heading, so you should assist the person in getting to the bottom of the matter. If you have time, let the person "ramble" while you take note of the most important elements. This also allows you time to synthesize and think of your best solution to the question. The ability to listen provides you a high percentage of success when it comes to answering questions.

You should determine if you're qualified to answer the issue or is someone else. If you are not authorized, can you talk about this subject (journalists have the power to make you feel uncomfortable even if you are not meant to be the company spokesperson)? How long should your answer be? In the meantime, pauses and periods of silence will show that you're simply churning out whatever raw materials you have in your mind but a clearly thought out answer is in the pipeline. It is possible to make sure that the person you are expecting to hear to answer you by saying "Let me think about it ..., Let me think about it." ..". That way the person does take a break from thinking you've not heard or you're just not listening, and ignoring. It also allows you in coming up with suggestions which you'll regret on later. You can figure out the best method to reply with wisdom without leaving the person with injuries or wounds that are not healed.
